Project Overview:

At Euro Auto Tech & Smog, we addressed a persistent coolant leak on a 2018 BMW 540i. After performing a pressure test, our technicians quickly identified a few common failure points in the cooling and oil systems of this B-series engine.


Key Findings & Repairs:

  • Coolant reservoir had a micro-crack, leaking under pressure
  • Lower reservoir hose was worn and compromised
  • Oil filter housing was also leaking — a known issue on these engines


Despite the coolant being low, the vehicle was otherwise in excellent condition: clean, stock, and free of rust or signs of neglect.


Services Performed:

  • Replaced the oil filter housing
  • Installed a new coolant reservoir, overflow hose, and lower coolant pipe
  • Topped off with fresh coolant
  • Completed with a full synthetic oil change
